Irish teens go viral with brilliant as Gaeilge cover of summer hit 'Despacito'

AN IRISH language cover of summer hit Despacito by a group of Irish teens will leave you reel-ing for more.

The song, by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber, has spent nine weeks at the top of the British singles charts this summer.

While the reggaeton remix has been inescapable since its release in May, these Irish teens from the TG Lurgan project have given a fresh take on the Latin-inspired hit, recording it as Gaeilge and using traditional Irish instruments.

Part of the Coláiste Lurgan Irish language summer school in Galway, TG Lurgan have previously released Irish language covers of Hozier’s Take Me to Church, Adele's Hello, Sia’s Chandelier and Wake Me Up by famed Swedish DJ Avicii.

In the video, Dara, John, Jack and Diego sing the song in Irish while their course mates perform Irish dancing.

So far, the video has amassed nearly 700,000 views and continues to grow.
