Irish singer brings audience to tears during emotional tribute to brother on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’

IRISH SINGER Mark McMullan brought audience members and judges alike to tears with his powerful performance on Britain’s Got Talent over the weekend.

The 23-year-old received four yeses from the panel with his performance of Bring Him Home from the musical Les Misérables.

The Co Down student chose to perform the song in tribute to his older brother Declan who has been living with a condition called Locked-In Syndrome.

In 2013 Declan suffered a stroke that damaged part of his brainstem, which left much of his body and facial muscles paralysed, save for certain eye movements.

"He’s trapped inside his own body, the only thing he can really do is hear, so my music kind of became a big comfort for him”, McCullan explained on the show.

The resulting performance received a rapturous applause, with McMullan singled out for special praise from Simon Cowell.

"He’s lucky to have a brother like you. You brought meaning to that song I hadn’t thought about before,” Cowell said.

“I tell you what I was really impressed with Mark is you managed to combine a real tenderness with that song and then went into the strength in the second half the performance.

"I wouldn’t be surprised off the back of this that you start getting calls from West End producers, possibly Broadway producers, because you’re that good."

McMullan remains in the running to bag a spot performing at the Royal Variety Performance in front of members of the British Royal Family
