Irish author releases new book on Scottish referendum

AN IRISH author is launching his latest book on the Scottish referendum in Glasgow this week.

Peter Geoghegan, originally from Longford town, is releasing a tale of the journey to Scotland’s landmark referendum and beyond.

As a freelance journalist and author, Peter covered the Scottish referendum in intricate detail; from the build-up, to the historic day itself and the aftermath.

The People’s Referendum takes readers on a journey, through some remarkable people and far-flung places, as the tale of the road to the vote unfolds.

The book is unique in that it does not focus on the political figures but rather on the “ordinary” people involved.

"The referendum was the biggest decision in Scotland's history,” explains Peter. “This book is different in that it follows some of the ordinary - and extraordinary people - on the campaign trail, from ageing Communists campaigning for a Yes vote in Fife, to Orangeman rallying behind the union."

September 19 of this year saw 3.6million Scots take to the polls in a debate that gripped the nation in an unprecedented manner.

The launch takes place in Oswald Street Bookshop on December 18, from 6.30pm. Register for your free admission here.
