Ireland's Strictly couple wave goodbye after foxtrot falls flat

MRS Brown’s Boys star Jennifer Gibney became the latest celebrity to exit Strictly Come Dancing, after losing the elimination dance-off to Blue’s Simon Webbe.

Gibney and partner Tristan MacManus failed to impress the judges on Sunday night with their foxtrot routine.

The Irish pair finished second from bottom on the leader board. The panel was joined this week by American singer Donny Osmond as a guest judge.

Gibney, who stars alongside husband Brendan O'Carroll in the hit BBC series Mrs Brown’s Boys, said she was grateful that her time on the show had taught her how to move around the dance floor.

"Before this, I didn't know how to dance," she said.

"I wanted to learn how to dance and I now know how to jive, how to waltz and how to foxtrot, however badly. I've learned three dances and I've had a great time with Tristan. He is one of the family and he will remain one of the family."

Co Wicklow native MacManus praised his partner’s efforts.

"She made every day that I've known her so far as enjoyable as the next," he said.

"I hope she's not telling lies now and she will talk to me after tonight," he laughed. "It's been a pleasure to get to know you and your family."

There were some eye-catching routines over the weekend of Hollywood-inspired routines, with BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills taking to the floor as Sebastian the crab from The Little Mermaid. It failed to impress the judges and Craig Revel Horwood called him a "lobster on acid".

Judy Murray and television presenter Tim Wonnacott also failed to impress the judging panel, whilst Saturday's singer Frankie Bridge was awarded the first 10 of the series, and topped the leader board with her Paso Doble with Kevin Clifton.
