Ireland's Cillian Murphy joined by stellar cast in trailer for highly-anticipated war film Dunkirk

IRISH actor Cillian Murphy appears in the first look two-minute trailer for Dunkirk, which is being billed as the most anticipated war film of 2017.

The spine-tingling trailer features the Cork native and Peaky Blinders star battling it out on the beaches of Dunkirk in the movie directed by Inception and Interstellar director Christopher Nolan.

Filming started on the epic in May this yea, with scenes being filmed in Britain in Swanage and Weymouth in Dorset.

Also starring alongside Murphy is Kenneth Branagh and ex-One Direction star Harry Styles.

Cillian Murphy first came to Hollywood's attention while starring in Danny Boyle's post-apocalyptic thriller 28 Days Later in 2002.

He then went on to star in Dunkirk director's Christopher Nolan's highly acclaimed Batman Trilogy, starring in Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) as the twisted character the Scarecrow.

Murphy has also featured in other Nolan epics, starring alongside 2016 Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio six years ago, in the highly-rated film Inception.

Dunkirk is based upon the miraculous evacuation of Allied soldiers who were surrounded by the German army on the beaches of Dunkirk during World War II.

The music will be provided by Grammy award=winning composer Hans Zimmer.

Fans are already reaching fever pitch ahead of the British and Irish theatre release date on July 21, 2017...
