Ireland's top 10 most beloved children's movies have been revealed

WHAT WAS your favourite children's movie growing up as a child in Ireland?

That was the question posed to listeners of the Muireann O’Connell on Ireland’s Today FM and the results did not disappoint.

Growing up in Ireland, films like Labyrinth, Toy Story, and ET were essential viewing during rainy days and nights indoors – and there were plenty of those.

Some of the films on this list have aged well. Others less so. Whatever the case, the movies featured are sure to take you back to your childhood.

So here it is, Ireland's Top 10 Favourite Children's Movies as voted for by listeners to the Muireann O'Connell show.

10. Watership Down (1978)

"Bright eyes, burning like fire"

Never has an animated film about cute, cuddly rabbits been so disturbing - but we loved it!

9. Labyrinth (1986)

"Live without your sunlight, love without your heartbeat"

David Bowie shines in this Jim Henson cult classic also starring a young Jennifer Connelly.

8. Neverending Story (1984)

"Never give up and good luck will find you."

Watching Artax die in the swamp of despair still breaks us, all these years later.

7. Into The West (1992)

"Tayto! Where ya goin' Tayto!"

Forget The Usual Suspects and Miller's Crossing - this is Gabriel Byrne's finest hour.

6. Matilda (1996)

"No more Miss Nice Girl"

Admit it, Miss Honey was your first movie crush in this pitch-perfect kids' classic.

5. Hook (1991)

"Bangarang!"

Rufio! Rufio! Rufio! The coolest of all the Lost Boys. Who didn't want that hair?

4. ET (1982)

"ET phone home"

The Steven Spielberg classic still holds up all these years later.

3. Toy Story (1995)

"To infinity, and beyond!"

Buzz Lightyear and Sheriff Woody back where it all began.

2. The Goonies (1985)

"Hey, you guys!"

Many an hour was spent trying to perfect the Truffle Shuffle.

Clever, funny and just a great old-fashioned fairytale.
