Interactive 'accent map' of Ireland and Britain lets you test your ear

HOW good is your ear for accents? Can you tell a Welsh accent from a Yorkshire one?

A clever new interactive map lets you test your ability to identify some famous regional accents across Ireland and Britain, as well as giving you a listen to some of our favourites from Birmingham, Newcastle to Nothern Ireland.

After three months online, Expedia's Accent Map has also recorded data from almost 1,000,000 guesses.

The results show that 69.79 percent of people correctly identified for the Northern Irish accent – the highest score out of all of the 15 diverse dialects on the map.

This makes Northern Ireland, as per the data, one of the most recognisable accents across Britain and Ireland, finishing just behind RP English (74 per cent) and Glaswegian (78 per cent).

The Northern Ireland accent proved 0.25 per cent more recognisable than the Southern Irish accent, which had 69.54 per cent correct answers.

On the other end of the scale the Birmingham accent proved to be the least recognisable, the closest after the Brummie accent were Lancashire and Somerset.
