Hozier pays tribute to Irish activists in video for 'Nina Cried Power'

HOZIER HAS used the video for new single Nina Cried Power to pay tribute to some of Ireland's most famous activists.

It's the Wicklow star's first release in four years, following on from the success of his multi-platinum selling eponymous debut album,

The video features a wide variety of activists including Saoirse Long, Eamonn McCann, Christina Noble, Colm O'Gorman, Sinéad Burke, Grace Dyas, Ellie Kisyombe, Anna Cosgrave, Bernadette McAliskey and Simone George.

Featuring both pro-choice and end direct provision campaigners, several of the group also stood alongside Hozier at the Stand for Truth protest event held during Pope Francis' visit to Ireland.

In the video, they were filmed listening and reacting to the new Hozier track for the first time.

A celebration of singers who also served as political activists, the song's title is a direct reference to civil rights pioneer and soul music icon Nina Simone.

It also features guest vocals from American rhythm and blues singer Mavis Staples.

Directed by the singer's brother, Jon Hozier Byrne along with Patrick Ryan, the video was made at Windmill Lane Studios in Ringsend, Dublin.

The song comes from Hozier's new Nina Cried Power EP, which was released this September.
