GRAHAM Norton insists that he is too “lazy” to take over the reigns as Strictly Come Dancing host after Sir Bruce Forsyth stepped down from the show.
The Irish TV presenter and comedian has been linked to the role following Forsyth’s announcement that he is done with the popular BBC One series after ten years.
“I wouldn't jump at the chance, I really enjoy the show but it's a very tough gig,” Norton told The Sun.
"It's very hard for a new person to take over... and I'm quite lazy."
The 51-year-old – who presents BBC’s The Graham Norton Show on Friday evenings – also has a Saturday show on BBC Radio 2 and hosts the BBC's coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest.
He suggested that it would be "a bit weird" to accept a job that could mean he would be on television screens on both days of the weekend.
Instead, the Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman partnership that has featured on Strictly Come Dancing would be "the sensible way forward", according to Norton.
The pair co-host the Sunday results show and have previously replaced Forsyth on the Saturday night show on some occasions.
"I think as a tried-and-tested duo they're great and work really well together," said Norton.
Forsyth has presented the show with Daly since the show began in 2004. He announced his departure last month.
Actor John Barrowman and presenter Nick Knowles have also been suggested as potential replacements.
