A NEW Ghostbusters film is being developed with the son of the original movie’s director set to helm the project, which is due to be released in 2020.
Jason Reitman has confirmed he is developing a new film, which will serve as a direct sequel to Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2.
Reitman, whose credits include Juno and Up In The Air, is the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the original film and its 1989 follow-up.
The film will not serve as a sequel to the divisive 2016 all-female reboot of the franchise that starred Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy.
Jason Reitman broke the news on Twitter, writing: "Finally got the keys to the car. #GB20."

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Reitman said: "I've always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set.
"I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans. This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot.
"What happened in the '80s happened in the '80s, and this is set in the present day."
The original films starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson as a team of ghost-fighting heroes based in New York.
Ramis passed away in February 2014.
There is no word yet on whether any of Murray, Aykroyd or Hudson will return for the new instalment.
All three cameoed in the controversial 2016 reboot, though took on entirely new roles for the film.
