George Clooney injured in car accident after his scooter 'crashed into Mercedes windscreen' in Italy

The Hollywood star has been in a car-crash - and no, we're not talking about Batman & Robin.

George Clooney has reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries in a road accident in Italy after his scooter collided with a car.

According to state-owned Italian broadcaster TGR, the 57-year-old was was taking a break from filming in Sardinia when the accident occurred near the beach resort of Costa Corallina in Olbia.

It is understood he was rushed to Saint John II Hospital in Olbia with minor injuries but has since been discharged from ER.

Sardinian newspaper La Nuova posted a picture from the scene showing Clooney's scooter, a Mercedes car and a fire extinguisher with the caption: "George Clooney in hospital: With his bike he ended up hitting a car that was turning".

The image showed slight damage to the actor's bike and smashed glass to the left of the Mercedes car's windscreen.

NBC News reporter Claudio Lavagna tweeted: "George Clooney has already been discharged following collision between the scooter he was traveling on and a car. Clooney is in Sardinia to direct a TV series called Catch 22."

It comes after Clooney was pictured stepping off a private jet in Sardinia with wife Amal, 40, and infant twins, Alexander and Ella, last month.

The A-list couple are believed to have brought their parents to the Italian island to help care for the children while Clooney works.
