THE FIRST trailer for the Child’s Play reboot has dropped and it looks like Chucky has had a high-tech makeover.
The cult 1988 original featured a Good Guys doll possessed by a serial killer, however the menace driving the 2019 version appears to be defective programming.
The new teaser shows a robotic Buddi doll (complete with WiFi symbol over the ‘i’) being assembled, before performing a facial scan when it meets its new owner.
Despite his AI upgrade however, it looks as though Chucky’s trademark stripy jumper and dungarees (and his bloodlust) have remained.
Beyond that, the teaser gives little away about the backstory of the new doll, with director Lars Klevberg remaining tight-lipped.
“Our Chucky will be our Chucky and he will be presented when the movie comes out,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
While the trailer might be short on detail, Orion Pictures have pushed the boat out when it comes to marketing elsewhere.
They have created a website for Kaslan, the fictional company behind the Buddi doll, and released Kaslan promotional videos on YouTube.
Child’s Play is being produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, the duo behind 2017 horror smash hit reboot, It.
It is due to be released on June 21, 2019.
