DOZENS of people running amok in north London dressed as priests, what the feck is going on? That’ll be TedFest London, Ted.
The Irish homage to the much-loved Channel 4 programme Father Ted is crossing the Irish Sea next month and will take over the London Irish Centre in Camden on Saturday, July 12 for a raft of tributes to Dermot Morgan and Co.
Here TedFest organiser Peter Phillips outlines what to expect….
1. An Audience Without Dermot
The Morgan family have been very supportive of Tedfest since the start. Dermot’s son Rob will be hosting a Q&A session about the great man for all gathered. So start penning down what you’d most like to know about the funny man and what was his own favourite Ted moment.
2. Ted’s Got Talent
An idea we started in 2004 and which Simon Cowell stole. Does what it says on the tin. Previous winners include traditional Irish pole dancing and a reading of James Joyce’s Ulysses Gangnam style. Have you got a secret talent? Bring it along and share it. Go on, go on, go on, go on!
3. The Craggy Cup
Priests v Nuns five-a-side footy. A one goal start for each nun in the team. Due to the regulation size goalposts on Craggy Island there has not been a goal scored since 2006. In the inevitable event of a draw the strict rules of scissors, paper, stone apply.
4. Human Buckaroo
Teams of three compete. Two in a Pantomime horse and team captain in the role of ‘Piller of Shite’. An application has been made for this to be an accredited sport in the 2018 Olympics.
5. The Lovely Girls
The main event. Ah, but don’t they all have lovely bottoms! Girls get out your best dress and practice that walk. Wigs optional. Sure where else would you get it!
TedFest London takes place on July 12 at the London Irish Centre in Camden. Tickets are £30 and limited to £400. The event starts at 12 noon and runs until late. Tedfest will also appear at Uderbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August
