A NEW musical set in the fictional Irish town of Spindlewood will play at Landor Theatre in South West London until July.
The Clockmaker’s Daughter is a new musical by writers Daniel Finn and Michael Webborn.
The original “faerytale” takes place in Spindlewood, a town that runs on tradition.
It is also, as the title suggests, home to a clockmaker with a secret.
A folk musical that draws on the genre’s classical tradition it is also a modern parable dealing with themes of prejudice, discrimination, animosity and a fear of the unknown.
Co-writer Daniel Finn explains:
The original aim of the piece was to attempt a new Grim or Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, something wholly original but also something that at the heart contained, and staunchly upheld, the moral axioms conveyed in the classics. We both believe the concepts in this piece are particularly relevant to us all today and wanted to write a fairytale that would speak to a modern audience.”
The cast features Jennifer Harding in the lead role as Constance, Alan McHale as Will and Rob McManus as Mayor Glynn.
The Clockmaker’s Daughter runs until Saturday July 4 at Landor Theatre, 70 Landor Road, London, SW9 9PH. Box office: 020 7737 7276 or see www.clockmakersdaughter.co.uk
