POPSTAR turned panto pirate queen Edele Lynch paid a visit to Watford FC’s Vicarage Road Stadium ahead of her performances at Watford Colosseum.
The former B*witched singer (and sister of Boyzone’s Shane Lynch) is pictured above with Watford’s goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin, who returned to the club last August following a year at Irish club St Patrick’s Athletic.
Lynch, who began her career as on the stage, will star as Captain Grace O’Malley in the current British tour of The Pirates of Treasure Island.
Instantly recognisable to anyone who remembers Irish pop in the 1990s, Lynch started the band B*Witched with her twin sister Keavy, Lindsay Armaou and Sinéad O’Carroll in 1997.
The band’s first four singles (including C’est la Vie and Rollercoaster) went to Number 1 in Britain and the upbeat foursome sold three million albums worldwide before splitting in 2002. In 2012, they reunited for ITV’s The Big Reunion.
“I’ve never done anything like this before,” says Lynch of her upcoming role in the Robert Louis Stevenson adaptation.
“I was offered the role, and I didn’t take too long to think about it — for me it’s about being on stage, which I love. I’m playing a bad Irish pirate so I’m lucky I’ve got the Irish accent…I’m also going to be singing C’est la Vie in the finale, which I’m excited about.”
The Pirates of Treasure Island is on tour from April 3 to May 30. For details see piratesoftreasureisland.com
