Dublin woman wins $10,000 on The Ellen DeGeneres show

AN IRISH woman living out in the US is now $10,000 richer after winning the hefty cash prize during a segment on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Dublin-born Ciara Delaney has become an overnight social media sensation after storming through Ellen's 'Hot Hands' quiz with flying colours.

A San Diego resident for the past two years, Delaney's 15 minutes of fame came after she was invited on stage at the Ellen Show to take part in a challenge with some big prizes up for grabs.

All she had to do was answer a series of photo-based questions and not only would she bag a $10,000 prize but two tickets to the American Music Awards.

The Dubliner was tasked with identifying the celebrities in a series of photos presented to her on-screen. It proved to be something of a breeze for Delaney, who scored 15 correct answers in 30 seconds to take home the prize.

In fact, the only one she had to pass on involved a K-pop band with the Irish woman wowing the watching audience with her impressive knowledge of all things pop culture.

It proved to be an emotional moment for Ciara, who burst into tears when she realised she had bagged the big money prize along with the tickets.

The segment might have even brought a tear to the eye of those at home and anyone who has ever struggled to make ends meet after embarking on a life-changing emigration.

Even Ellen, herself, as impressed though that didn't prevent her from cracking out a pretty bad Irish accent.

Perhaps she was trying to strike up some Irish kinship of sorts.

After all, DeGeneres is distantly Irish through her maternal grandmother Mildred Morrill.

She also happens to be related to British royalty with the New England Historic Genealogical Society confirming she is the 15th cousin to Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.
