Documentary about Connemara boxer wins a second industry gong

A RADIO documentary about Connemara boxer Sean Mannion scooped a second industry gong at the New York Festivals World’s Best Radio Programmes awards held in Manhattan this week.

Produced by former Irish Post journalist Robert Mulhern in 2014, for RTÉ Radio 1’s Documentary on One series, Never Knocked Down received a gold medal at the annual international award ceremony held in New York on Monday, June 22.

Co-produced by Ciaran Cassidy, and narrated by Anthony Cardinale Junior, the programme tells the story of a quiet hero who blazed a trail from his humble west of Ireland roots to a World Title shot in Madison Square Gardens in 1984.

In April the documentary won gold in the Sports Category at the 2015 Celtic Media Awards, held in Inverness in April.
