The Cranberries pay tribute to Dolores O’Riordan in powerful animated video for new single

THE CRANBERRIES have paid tribute to late singer Dolores O’Riordan in the animated music video for their new single All Over Now.

The video is part of a collaboration with award winning director and animator Dan Britt.

All Over Now is taken from the band’s final album, In The End, which will be released on April 26th.

The video's storybook visuals were created with the help of illustrator Tom Clohosy Cole and inspired by Eric Ravilious’ landscapes of the English countryside, which Dan describes as, “beautiful but stark and criss-crossed by barbed wire and the signs of human activity.”

Taking inspiration from In the end is my beginning, a TS Elliot poem that resonates with the band, and the song’s tale of an abusive relationship, the video sensitively visualises Dolores’ lyrics, paying tribute to her lost artistry in the process..

“After some initial discussions about the direction I was left alone for the most part,” Dan says. “The band’s support has led to what I hope is a good match to this lovely song a fitting tribute to Dolores.”

Blending rock, alternative and the Cranberries’ classic pop melodies the song is one of several on the album that stands as a powerful testimony to the life and creative work of Dolores and her brothers in music Noel, Mike and Fergal.

The genesis of In The End began in May 2017 while the band were on tour.

By winter of 2017 Noel and Dolores had written and demoed the eleven songs which would eventually appear on the album.

Dolores tragically passed away in January 2018.

“Dolores was so energized by the prospect of making this record and to getting back out on the road to play the songs live” Noel says.

In coming to terms with her tragic passing Noel, Mike and Fergal listened to the songs and, with the support of Dolores’ family, wanted to honour their close friend, and collaborator by completing the record.

Speaking about the band’s concerns at the time Noel said: “we knew this had to be one of the, if not the, best Cranberries album that we could possibly do.

“The worry was that we would destroy the legacy of the band by making an album that wasn’t up to standard.

“Once we had gone through all the demos that Dolores and I had worked on and decided that we had such a strong album we knew it would be the right thing and the best way that we could honour Dolores.”

In The End is out on April 26th.
