Cillian Murphy can't leave the house when he's wearing his 'Peaky Blinders' buzz cut

CILLIAN MURPHY has revealed how he often ends up mobbed by fans if he goes out wearing his trademark Peaky Blinders hairstyle.

The Cork man told The Sun he has been approached by screaming devotees of the BBC gangster drama who spotted him with his character Tommy Selby’s famous buzz cut.

It’s a situation that has forced Murphy to take drastic action.

“I try to wear my hair longer if I can manage depending on what work I’m doing so that helps a bit,” he explained to The Sun.

“It’s when you get the haircut (Tommy’s famous buzz cut) that people start shouting at you. When I don’t have the haircut, I can get the bus quite unmolested.

“I’m just constantly surprised how Peaky Blinders continues to grow. Sometimes with these longform shows they tend to plateau, or dip, for a season, but Peaky seems to have incrementally gotten stronger and I’m really proud of that.”

Despite this minor gripe, Murphy is keen not to sound like “one of those actors who moans about his job”.

“It’s my job to inhabit these characters and Tommy Shelby in particular has been one of the greatest roles I’ve ever had the opportunity of playing,” he said.

“But this kind of a character does weigh on you after a certain time.

“Apart from the four months we spend shooting the series there’s also the journey to get there — it takes about six weeks prepping for the show, there’s the time involved getting into the physicality of Tommy, the accent, the voice — everything that I need to be able to inhabit the character.”

Peaky Blinders is set to return at some point this year with creator Steven Knight previously confirming plans for a sixth season with a view to concluding things with a seventh and final series.

So Murphy might not need to get that haircut anytime soon.
