Chris O'Dowd to star in Lance Armstrong biopic

CHRIS O’Dowd is set to star in Stephen Frears’ forthcoming as-yet untitled biopic about American cyclist Lance Armstrong.

The Roscommon native will play David Walsh, the Sunday Times sports journalist who exposed the doping scandal in which Armstrong was publicly disgraced for having used performance-enhancing substances.

O’Dowd’s role in this film will be a move away from the comedy career for which he is most popular, having acted previously in Bridesmaids and The IT Crowd, and will be his most high profile role to date.

American actor Ben Foster (Contraband) will take on the role of Armstrong.

The biopic is based on Walsh's book, Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong.

Frears (Philomena, The Queen) will direct the film which will also see appearances from Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons and French actor Guillaume Canet.

Warner Bros is also planning to make a biopic about Armstrong called Red Blooded American.
