AWARD-winning Irish actress Sharon Horgan is set to star in Catastrophe, a new romantic comedy pilot for Channel 4.
Horgan who featured in and co-wrote BBC series Pulling, will write and star alongside Rob Delaney – America’s most influential Twitter comedian – in the new sitcom.
Catastrophe is a single camera comedy about an Irish woman and an American man who leave a trail of chaos as they struggle to fall in love in London.
The comedy series, which will be produced by The Thick Of It's Adam Tandy for Avalon Television, will begin filming in early 2014.
Channel 4 is also commissioning several other pilots in the New Year, including Flack starring Sheridan Smith.
Leading lady Smith (Jonathan Creek), will play a celebrity publicist who is ‘trying to fix other people’s lives whilst struggling with her own.’
The show is written by Oliver Lansley (Whites, Best Possible Taste: The Kenny Everett Story) and is being made by Hat Trick productions.
David Baddiel will write and direct new show Sit.com – a new single camera comedy about the impact of technology on a family.
It will be produced by Yonderland's Sioned William for Avalon.
The pilots have all been commissioned by Channel 4's new head of comedy, Phil Clarke. One of his first shows during his tenure was controversial sitcom London Irish.
