True Detective creator Cary Fukunaga revealed as new director of Bond 25

TRUE DETECTIVE creator Cary Fukunaga has been announced as the new director of Bond 25.

Fukunaga replaces Danny Boyle at the helm of the project after the Trainspotting filmmaker stepped down as director back in mid-August.

Boyle cited "creative differences" as the reason for his departure, with speculation rife that the filmmaker clashed with producers over the choice of villain for the film.

According to the Telegraph, Boyle wanted 41-year-old Polish actor Tomasz Kot to play the film's Russian villain.

Kot most recently starred in Pawel Pawlikowski's heartbreaking Cold War but was reportedly deemed a "left-field decision" by the Bond powerbrokers,

Fukunaga has now stepped into the breach with the official Bond Twitter account confirming the news this Thursday, September 20th.

"Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that #Bond25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director, Cary Joji Fukunaga with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020," the Tweet read.

Bond 25's release date has already been pushed back five months from the original planned release date of October 25th, 2019.

"We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure," producers Wilson and Broccoli said.

Fukunaga's directing credits include Sin Nombre, Jane Eyre, and Beasts of No Nation.

Daniel Craig stars as James Bond in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures/Columbia Pictures/EON Productions’ action adventure SPECTRE.

He also created the hit HBO series True Detective, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Fukunaga most recently helmed the Netflix mini-series Maniac, starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, which is due to be released on September 21.
