Actor John C Reilly reveals his ‘Irish passport’ on The Late Late Show

ACTOR John C Reilly revealed on Friday’s Late late Show that he had successfully obtained an Irish passport.

The actor was on the show with Steve Coogan to promote their new biopic about Laurel and Hardy.

However his new Irish passport wasn’t exactly legit – Coogan revealed it was a Wild Atlantic Way passport used for promotional purposes.

“I’m still happy I got it,” joked the actor.

Reilly, who is of Irish heritage, revealed to the Irish Mirror last year that he was trying to obtain dual citizenship and would love to settle down in Ireland.

He reiterated his love for the country again last night to Late Late host Ryan Tubridy.

“It’s a beautiful place and every time I come here things just seem to go well for me,” he said.

“I don’t know what it is, I suppose it’s my heritage and how Ireland embraces artists.

“[But] I really would [like an Irish passport] so consider it, Mr President!”

Passport pros

Coogan, whose mother hails from Co. Mayo, also revealed he was applying for an Irish passport.

“I also think that around the world if you’re in a sticky situation, the Irish have annoyed the least number of people,” said Coogan.

“Maybe it’s because they’ve never successfully invaded somewhere.”

Coogan and Reilly’s new movie, Stan & Ollie, tells the story of the comedians’ 1953 music hall tour of Britain and Ireland.
