“AN outsider of the town might think, ach,why would you be bothered to go to all that trouble for Mass?
Well the truth was because everyone else did. It was a bloody fashion show up there!"
That's a flavour of the dialogue from Absolution, an Irish production which plays in Kennington this weekend.
Absolution is a black comedy, set in Co. Monaghan in the late 1970's and told from the perspective of Flo Brady, a young teenager in the Cathedral’s youth choir, and Mizenty Flanagan, the caretaker of the Cathedral.
The thing that unites the two men, is their hatred of another, and that's where the dramatic tension lies.
Through "interweaving monologues" the story unfolds, dragging in "a bishop, a bible and a speedy burial" along the way.
The show is directed by and stars Barry McSkeane, alongside actors Shane Connolly (pictured right) and Kelly McAuley.
All three are natives of Co. Monaghan.
April 19 and 20, 7.00pm and April 21 at 8.45. For tickets and more information click here
