A MAN has spent the night in his jeep after it getting it stuck on the narrow walkway to Dunquin Pier in Co.Kerry
The man had attempted to drive the car down to the pier which is at the end of a pedestrian only walkway providing access to the Blasket Island ferries.
Ferry staff found him the next morning, wedged into the bend leading towards the pier.
They shared a photo of the unfortunate motorist to their Facebook page with the caption:
“This genius decided to drive down to the pier in Dunquin which is a pedestrian only walkway! He wedged the jeep at the corner which means no one can access the pier this morning. Apologies for any inconvenience caused, he's been in the jeep all night!”
Radio Kerry reported that a rescue mission was mounted by local gardaí and that diggers were required to remove the 4 x 4 vehicle, and its trapped occupant.
The picturesque pier is one of the most famous vistas in Co.Kerry. It acts as one of the main landing points for ferries to and from the Blasket Islands off the Dingle peninsula.
The Blasket Island Ferries Facebook page later announced that the man and his jeep had been freed and thanked Kerry Council.
