MORE than 4.6million people watched the first episode of James Nesbitt's Ireland on ITV.
The Monroe star is hosting the new ITV eight-part series, which tells the story of present day Ireland through its culture, history and people.
In episode one, which aired on Monday, March 18 at 8pm on ITV1, the actor visited the south west coast of Ireland where he enjoyed its miles of white sand and crystal clear waters.
“The water might be a bit chilly, the sun may not always be shining, but the warmth of the Irish people will give you just as good a time,” Nesbitt said of the stretch of coastline once cited as the most beautiful place on earth by the National Geographic.
This latest series is just one in a long list of TV credits for Nesbitt, who was born in Ballymena, Co Antrim. Others include Cold Feet, Monroe and Murphy’s Law and a more recent movie role playing Bofur in the blockbuster The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
James Nesbitt’s Ireland is part nature and travel show, part meet-and-greet the locals that sees him tour the island of Ireland.
The actor visits iconic natural landmarks of beauty such as the Giant’s Causeway and the Cliffs of Moher, as well as some less well-known places including the seaweed baths at Strandhill, Co Sligo.
Subsequent episodes see Nesbitt taste Clove Rock ice cream in Dingle and pay a visit to the Co. Cork countryside near the Blackwater River.
He will also visit areas close to his heart in a bid to rediscover “a country with heart and with soul, steeped in history, culture and characters”.
