EVERTON midfielder Darron Gibson has pleaded guilty to a hit-and-run incident with three cyclists whilst drink-driving.
The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland International was behind the wheel of his black Nissan Skyline GT-R Nismo on Sunday, August 16 when it crashed into three cyclists who had stopped at the side of the road to fix a broken chain.
Gibson fled the scene before pulling into a petrol station near his hometown of Bowdon, Cheshire and collided with a pump.
The cyclist that was directly hit by Gibson’s car received cuts to his legs, elbow and hand.
His £4,500 carbon composite bike was also written off.
Gibson entered guilty pleas at Trafford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning to driving with excess alcohol, driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after an accident had occurred.
Chair of the bench Susanne O’Connell told Gibson that the failure to stop offence was “serious enough” to merit a community penalty.
The ex-Manchester United midfielder will liaise with the Probation Service at court before sentencing takes place later.
