You can catch Irish star Saoirse Ronan in her London stage debut without leaving your living room

THE Almeida Theatre in London has extended its current run of The Tragedy of Macbeth until November 27.

The Yaël Farber’s production stars Saoirse Ronan as Lady Macbeth and James McArdle in the title role.

The Almeida has now announced that the show will be streamed online between October 27 and October 30, with the actors performing live from the theatre each night.

Tickets for the live streaming cost from £15.

The play is one of Shakespeare’s best-known works — in the words of the theatre it is quite simply “one couple’s spine-chilling quest for power”.

Four-time Academy Award-nominated Saoirse Ronan makes her UK stage debut as Lady Macbeth. She made her Broadway debut as Abigail Williams in The Crucible on Broadway in 2016 to glowing reviews and has been celebrated throughout her career for her performances in films including Atonement, Lady Bird, Brooklyn, and Little Women.

Olivier Award-nominee James McArdle plays the title role of Macbeth.

He was born in Glasgow and has enjoyed a successful stage and film career.

In 2017 McArdle's performance as Louis Ironson in Angels in America at the National Theatre’s Lyttleton stage in London earned him a nomination for the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

Staying with the production when it transferred to Broadway, McArdle was subsequently nominated for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play.

South African Yaël Farber is an internationally acclaimed director and playwright, whose recent work includes Hamlet (St Ann’s Warehouse, New York); Blood Wedding (Young Vic), Knives in Hens (Donmar Warehouse) and Les Blancs (National Theatre).
