A MAN has pleaded guilty to assault after he pushed a fisherman into a pond in Coventry.
Brendan Cleary, 45, of Gloucester Street, Spon End appeared before Coventry Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 29 to face charges of assault and criminal damage after the man’s fishing equipment was damaged in the attack.
Unemployed Cleary pleaded guilty to both charges and was given conditional bail until sentencing on October 12.
Footage of the incident that took place in Swanswell Park in Coventry was uploaded to YouTube and has since received thousands of views.
West Midlands Police are appealing to identify a second man in connection with the assault.
Furthermore, officers are appealing for the man who was pushed into the pond to contact them.
PC Jim Stevenson, from Coventry’s Violent Crime Team, said: "I am appealing to anyone who can identify the fisherman to call me or one of the team as we really need to speak to him.
"If you know him, then please ask him to contact us as soon as possible. He may be cautious about coming forward but we want to reassure him that we will deal with this incident with empathy and understanding.”
