Ireland one of the most digitally progressive countries

IRELAND is one of the most digitally progressive countries in the world, according to a recent survey published in the Harvard Business Review.

Ireland finds itself alongside Singapore, the US, Switzerland and Hong Kong as one of the ‘stand out’ countries in the Digital Evolution Index (DEI), that scores each nation out of 100.

Ireland ranked ahead of Britain on the index, which compares the rate of change between 2008 and 2013. It highlights that countries are growing digitally at uneven rates.

The index was created by the Fletcher School at Tufts University, Massachusetts.

The report considers four key factors in determining the country’s digital readiness including the presence of a start-up culture and mind-set and laws and regulations and promoting the digital ecosystem.

Ireland’s level of digital development is continually growing, and its long-standing relationship with the technology industry will also protect the country against British plans to poach US investment, according to IDA Ireland, the organisation promoting foreign direct investment.

The comments come as the British Government kick-starts the HQ-UK initiative to entice US tech companies away from Ireland to Britain.
