Guinness sales rise in Ireland for first time in six years

GUINNESS sales in Ireland are on the up after six years of decline, Diageo says.

Sales of the landmark Irish tipple had fallen consecutively since 2008 but according to Diageo’s latest figures, Guinness sales were up one per cent in the second half of 2014 on the previous year.

But the good news ends here, as Guinness’ worldwide sales were down four per cent due to poor sales in Britain, Indonesia and Nigeria.

Diageo Ireland country director David Smith said he believes the growth in Ireland came in part from a number of advertising campaigns.

Elsewhere in Diageo, Baileys sales rose by almost two per cent over the same period, while Gordon’s gin increased its market share to 37.3 per cent.
