AER Lingus have announced three new transatlantic routes from Dublin to the US as part of new expansions plans.
Ireland’s national airline, which was acquired by British Airways owners IAG last month, will launch the new routes in 2016.
The services will be introduced from Los Angeles, Hartford in Connecticut, and Newark in New Jersey.
The announcement follows the recent launch of new short-haul flights to Manchester, Pisa and Montpellier.
The Dublin-Los Angeles route will be begin operation next May, with five direct services per week.
A daily service from Dublin to Newark in New Jersey will be launched in September 2016.
The third route, a daily service to Hartford in Connecticut, will also commence in the same month.
This is the single largest expansion of Aer Lingus’ transatlantic network since it began the service in 1958.
“The expansion of Aer Lingus routes between the United States and Ireland is excellent news for Irish tourism in 2016,” said Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland.
“As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in visitor numbers.”
The expansion plans will create more than 200 jobs for pilots, cabin crew and ground services staff.
The additional destinations will bring the total number of Aer Lingus routes to the US to 12.
In summer 2016, Aer Lingus will operate 28 daily services across the Atlantic.
