Father-of-two Danny Ryan has handed over £4,000 to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Danny’s most recent appeal brings the total raised overall this year to £20,000 for the Neonatal Unit. And when you count his efforts over the last three years — the total goes even higher to £60,000!
Danny, who was awarded an MBE for services to the community in 2001, said: “I was inspired to raise money for the Neonatal Unit in Birmingham after a dear friend’s child was born prematurely and it was brought to my attention there was a lack of funds for equipment.”
Funds for the most recent cheque-giving were raised in conjunction with publicans in Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield who held quiz nights, housed collection bottles and general fundraising events. The Hardwick Arms, in Sutton Coldfield alone has raised a staggering £5,000 through quiz nights over the last four months.
The money raised will fund a new CO-Oximeter, a machine which measures oxygen levels in a premature baby’s blood. Danny has managed to supply the Birmingham Children’s Hospital with nine machines in total over the past three years.
Danny whose parents hail from Limerick and Kilkenny, will launch his next campaign for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the coming weeks. He will be raising money for a revolutionary piece of equipment for the cancer unit called the Cyber Knife.
