Ireland's Matt Doherty could be moving to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid on a loan deal until the end of the season

ACCORDING TO REPORTS TODAY Tottenham and Ireland's fullback Matt Doherty could be moving to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The English outlet Football.London have said that the two clubs are hashing out a deal on deadline day and the former Boh's man would get more game time in the Spanish capital.

Since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderer's Doherty has become a bit-part player at Spurs under Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.

He had been rumoured to leave the club on more than one occasion. The long-awaited move now seems to be closer than ever.

After 2-0 loss to Arsenal earlier in January, Conte slammed the Republic of Ireland international's displays in October, saying he was not seeing him in the "right way" to start every game.

Spurs are chasing a deal for Pedro Porro joining from Sporting CP and Djed Spence is closing in on a move to Rennes in France.

The Porro deal is seen as an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy

Transfer guru Fabrizo Romano wrote on Twitter: “Atlético Madrid are set to sign Matt Doherty on loan deal from Tottenham, here we go! Agreement in place — no buy option clause included. #Atléti #THFC Medical booked for Doherty who’s set to leave as Porro will join Tottenham — first call, @marca

Doherty has made 16 appearances for the Lilywhites this season, with his one goal coming in the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace at the start of January. His departure will see incoming Porro and Emerson Royal fight it out for the right wing-back spot in Conte's team.

Doherty will not be the first Tottenham right-back to join Atletico after Kieran Trippier made the same switch in 2019, before returning to England to sign for Newcastle last year.
